Longines - Dubai
Longines is a brand of watch from Switzerland that has a reputation for watch making that has been built over a period of more than 175 years. Such is their reputation that they have been the official timekeeper of world championships and a partner of international sports federations since a very long time. The fact that they have been a member of The Swatch Group S.A. which is the world’s leading manufacturer of watches explains their reputation. Longines watches are popular throughout the world and are established in more than 130 countries. Longines also operates a number of boutiques in a number of prestigious shopping malls in Dubai.

Longines has been an accepted leader in the field of technical research and development. It was named the “Leading Prize Winner’ at many international exhibitions and it won an incredible 10 Prixs at the Barcelona Exhibition of 1929. Longines had come out with a winged hourglass logo in 1867 which it retains even today. The company maintains a long and special relationship with the sporting fraternity. It has invented several devices for the precise and perfect timing of sporting events. Some of these inventions are:
* The ‘Broken Wire’ automatic timing system which was first used at the Swiss Federal Gymnastics meeting in 1912.
* The ‘Photogines’ which was the first mechanism to link timing with a photo finish in 1952.
* The ‘Contifort’ which was the first system to combine timing with a moving image in 1960.

These inventions enabled Longines to provide the timing for a large number of world class sporting events. It also established a partnership with the Italian car company Ferrari for establishing a timing system for Formula I racing. You will discover that Longines is associated with all sports events – gymnastics, speed skating, archery, tennis, and skiing – for maintaining timing system.

Longines has been the official supplier of watches to the FAI, World Air Sports Federation and it has also provided the timing equipment required to verify world records of fliers. Longines instruments have been a part of many expeditions and it has accompanied many explorers on journeys to the ends of the earth. Longines has been extremely successful in using its timing expertise at many of the world’s top international events. It has the prestigious position of being the official timekeeper for some of the most important international equestrian tournaments. It is also the official timekeeper for the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships, and the French Tennis championships. Longines also times several of the Alpine ski events that are conducted in several places in the world, as well as the World Championships.

All the watches in the Longines collection are incredibly beautiful and attract attention by their graceful looks. Most of the watches have white mother-of-pearl dials but some do have black lacquered dials. Some of the watches are adorned with diamonds, but the size of the diamonds differs from model to model. The sizes of the diamonds vary between 0.5 to 2.0 carats. You will see the diamonds, not on the dial, but on the bezel. And, do you know what is unusual about the Longines watch collection? Each watch features Arab numbers on all the hour markers except at 6 0’ clock.

In Dubai, there are a number of places where you can shop for a Longines watch – The Dubai Mall, Oasis Centre, Arabian Plaza, Atlantis The Palm Hotel, the Burjuman Shopping Mall, and the Emirates Towers.
